What the owner says

“When we bought the property originally it was in a somewhat parlous state but we loved the position. Offering a perfect blend of sea, city and country living. We love taking the children to the sandy beaches in Broadstairs for a swim in the sea after school. Dining out and watching the London shows at the Marlowe in Canterbury & coming back to the tranquility & space of the countryside. After we moved in we completely re-landscaped the entire grounds, planted over 1,000 saplings, which now provide perfect screening and privacy in the middle of the village. We have taken 8 years transforming this property back to its former grandeur and bringing it into the 21st Century living and, because we love entertaining friends and family, we created everything we felt would make life at this property fun and relaxing. At the same time we have also been able to run our business from here. However we are going to start a new chapter in our lives and hope the next owners will really enjoy everything we have done to make this a very special place.

Stourmouth is a quiet peaceful village, we are not too far from the village shop & butchers at Preston. There are delightful places to go for walks and you can enjoy a drink or a pleasant meal at the Rising Sun pub, which is less than a minute's walk so you don't have to drive".

Property details

As you sweep up the long driveway past the attractive wooden electronic gates at the entrance to this property you see this stunning residence for the first time. The initial vision of this beautiful Grade II Listed medieval property nestling in the midst of 1.595 acres of grounds will take your breath away. Its impressive external chimney stack, Tudor style front door and pointed arch door frame will make you eager to cross the threshold to see what lies beyond. The wow factor continues as you walk into the amazing reception hall with its stone flooring, magnificent inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove, period staircase and a high beamed ceiling. This leads through to a beautiful formal dining room also with a high beamed ceiling and inglenook fireplace, window seat and fascinating arrow slit windows. The property is owned by specialist and highly acclaimed builder Adam Collett of Collett Custom Homes. When he bought this property it was in a very delapidated condition and he undertook the complete and sensitive restoration of the original property taking it literally back to bare beams and timbers. He then not only lovingly recreated the original hall as it would have been in days of yore but also added an extension that basically doubled the size of this very impressive residence. The extension has been very carefully created with appropriate old brickwork on the outside and internally the beamed ceilings and master carpentry provide a seamless continuation from the original Grade II Listed property. This addition includes a stunning kitchen/dining/seating room that incorporates a vast La Canche inset range cooker and a selection of beautiful units made of oak and individually created by 'Thoroughly Wood' from Lyminge, which specialises in producing bespoke kitchens using traditional methods. As the owners love entertaining on a lavish scale there is a stunning central island breakfast bar with bespoke bar chairs, a lowered marble topped area with a double sink, double door opening fridge and freezer drawers below, a drinks fridge and two further freezers as well as two dishwashers – not to mention the floor to ceiling glass fronted corner champagne cupboard.
