What the owner says

We bought this house 10 years ago because we loved the position. The views are amazing and the fact that you can be paddling in the sea in a matter of seconds is a real bonus. There are tennis courts at the end of

the road for this looking to play a set or two. We love watching the people with their dogs and their children playing on the beach and we can walk along the sea wall into Whitstable town centre in about five minutes. However it often takes longer as we live in a very friendly community and we usually meet up with a number of acquaintances en route. Alternatively, we might stop off at the Old Neptune pub en route – it is one of the few pubs in Britain that is actually on the beach. We still

want to live in the locale as we enjoy it so much but we feel it is time to downsize and move into something a little smaller. Whitstable is a charming town full of individual shops, bars and restaurants as well as the harbour where you can buy the famous Whitstable oysters as well as a wide variety of other delicious fish. At the same time the station can whisk you to St Pancras on the high speed train in an hour and a quarter while the Thanet Way for London, Canterbury and the Thanet towns

is close by. There is a good primary school in the town and excellent state and private secondary schools are available in Canterbury.

There is the Crab and Winkle route between Canterbury and Whitstable for cyclists and plenty of places to enjoy a walk with the dog.

Property details

With uninterrupted views across the Swale to Sheppey and even as far as

Southend on a clear day, this stunning late Victorian period town house on the seafront in Whitstable offers everything you could wish for in a period seaside residence. As you walk up the steps to the main front door, just across from the sea wall, you already get the feeling that you are in for a real treat and once in the hallway and see the original staircase and other delightful features such as high ceilings, sash windows and coving, you will not be disappointed. The hall leads to the attractive dining room with a bay window where you can sit and enjoy the vista. There is a beautiful marble surround cast iron fireplace with

original inset tiling and a wood burning stove as well as an archway through to the fitted kitchen with its six ring gas hob, two built in electric ovens and space for an American style fridge freezer. In order to make the most of the superb views there is a lovely sitting room on the first floor that also has a charming fireplace with a marble surround and a wood burner as well as an arched bookshelf to the left of the chimney breast and sliding glazed doors right across the frontage. This leads to a wide balcony where you can enjoy the views while you sip your morning coffee. This floor also includes a double bedroom with a built in cupboard and a family bathroom. On the top floor there is the master bedroom overlooking the sea with plenty of fitted storage and a three sided recessed square bay window offering 180 degree coastal views as far as the eye can see. There is also another smaller bedroom with an original fireplace that could always be converted into an en suite bathroom and dressing room if required. On the half landing between the ground floor and the lower ground floor you will find a family shower room, while the lower ground floor offers some interesting surprises. It includes an impressive music room/study/games room with a lovely fireplace, book shelves and a bay window.
