The name of Larkfield is as literal as it is descriptive, referring to the large numbers of skylarks found in the area and fields; its first recorded instance is in Domesday Book as 'Lavrochesfel'. In 1961 two estates were build, where the majority of the roads are named after species of trees and birds. There is also another estate, known as the "Poets" where all the roads are named after famous poets.
