Description

Built on the site of a Roman temple is this unique four storey town house. Originally constructed in the 1980s it has been completely refurbished and brilliantly re-designed by the artistic owner to become the ultimate contemporary 21st century residence.

The exterior is all black with black framed windows and black and white tiled stairs leading up to the scarlet front. The main living accommodation consists of a stylish sitting area, open to the kitchen, with marble sill windows and black shutters, black painted oak flooring that flows through much of the property and an archway to the conservatory style bridge/dining area.

The bespoke kitchen designed by Herringbone House of Canterbury consists of an impressive marble breakfast bar with a marble covered sink and a Quooker tap. A black glass fronted cabinet and bespoke sideboard style black units with quartz worktops provide plenty of storage and lead to the discreetly hidden catering area with additional units housing high end appliances.

The fabulous dining room on the bridge includes a flame effect fire flanked by storage areas. The roof is glass with automatic Velux style windows while a wall of sliding patio doors on each side of the room open onto glass Juliette balconies creating the ultimate indoor/outdoor experience.

The top floor landing has an airing cupboard and access to the loft and an exotic bathroom with a 300 year old copper bath and brass fittings. There are three vaulted ceiling bedrooms including a guest double, the fourth bedroom with a wall of storage facilities and the first bedroom with a black built in wardrobe and views over the rooftops of Canterbury.

Going down towards the ground floor you will find a stunning Catchpole and Rye shower room. The ground floor includes an elegant cloakroom, the third bedroom/study with fitted cupboards and French doors to a covered outdoor balcony/terrace plus a large gym with a utility area and full height windows and a glass door to the parking area. The lower ground floor features a cinema room complete with a popcorn making machine.

What the Owner says:

We purchased this house a few years ago as we thought the location was ideal and, because the front entrance is at first floor level and not at street level, it is very quiet and peaceful even though it is so close to the city centre. We thought it would be our ‘forever' home and designed it with that in mind but unfortunately business commitments mean we have to move.
Canterbury includes historic buildings, high street stores, individual shops and eateries as well as two mainline stations and sports clubs. There are theatres, three universities, excellent grammar schools and first class private schools. It is only about a 12 minute walk to Canterbury West station for the fast train to St Pancras that takes less than an hour and it is not far from the A2 for Dover and Folkestone.
